Ichor.
2018. Mixed Media (Ink, Acrylic, Acrylic Thread). 18”x24”.
Portrait of Nadia based off an art photograph taken with gold leaf. Silkscreen print and hand embroidery.
Excessive and Silky: My thoughts landed on the commonality between royal dress and hair styles during the Heian period in Japan and this piece became a tribute to Lady Murasaki's epic poem The Tale of Genji.
Colossal & Luminous: I was immediately drawn to the idea of love and the magnitude of celestial bodies. I had a lot of fun playing with brushes and textures reminiscent of animation development art and the Disney Golden Book style.
Primal & Crispy: Being immediately reminded of my favorite classical piece of music by the subject matter and searing, crunchy dissonances of Stravinsky's Rite of Spring, I listened to the ballet and gave myself the challenge to draw using only my trackpad and limiting myself to the length of the recording. I experimented with abstraction and reference the original 1913 production and Nijinksy's shocking choreography.
Draw 2 Series
2020. (Ongoing) Digital media. Photoshop.
To combat staying stagnant during quarantine, I asked my closest friends to submit adjectives and I created a challenge for myself where I draw 2 of them randomly from a jar to inspire a digital drawing. Sometimes using the adjectives to inform process and other times to reimagine their conjunctive meaning, I hope to experiment with style and grow my skills as a digital painter, illustrator, and designer.
Mirela
2015. Colored Pencil on Drawing Board. 15”x20”
Portrait of my mother completed as a birthday gift.
Black Artists Story
2020. Digital collage. Illustrator & Photoshop.
Instagram story highlighting many overlooked Black visual artists from the 19th & 20th centuries. This is a work in progress and is eventually meant to include contemporary artists from around the world. I credit Dr. Amber Wiley of the Rutgers Art History Department and her class for introducing me to the pantheon of Black artists barely covered in other courses. Black lives matter.
Nyx
2015. Acrylic on Canvas. 12”x18”.
I was inspired by heat imaging of celestial bodies, topographic maps, and the resurgence of Art Nouveau in the 1960’s Psychedelic design.
